ACGC Volunteers and Volunteer Opportunities
ACGC relies on its volunteers to complete a number of organizational activities critical to its mission and recruits volunteer members for the committees below and task forces (as needed) throughout the year.

If you are interested in being available for the future needs of ACGC, please complete a Volunteer Application and submit it to the Executive Office. Volunteers completing work for ACGC, including individuals who serve on the Board of Directors, Committee Members, and Task Force members must comply with ACGC Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies.
The management of the affairs of ACGC is vested in a Board of Directors, consisting of members with varying areas of expertise relevant to the process of accreditation.
Term: Four years, with an option to renew for an additional two years.
The ACGC Communications Committee is charged with creating an integrated communication strategy for ACGC and for making recommendations on the strategy implementation. The committee is also responsible for regularly updating and marketing information about the organization’s activities as well as contributing to industry publications on behalf of the Council. The Committee maintains branding for the association, including the website and publications.
Term: Three years, with terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Committee is responsible for:
- Communicating the value, role, and limitations of accreditation in shaping genetic counseling graduate education DEIJ practices and outcomes.
- Identifying and recommending organizational policies which promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within genetic counselor graduate education
- Informing organizational culture by embedding a DEIJ focus across ACGC activities and initiatives
- Identifying systemic inequities in accreditation of genetic counseling programs
- Providing guidance and recommendations to ACGC committees and taskforces regarding DEIJ language.
Term: Two years, with an option to renew for one year, with terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
The Finance Committee is responsible for:
- Developing and overseeing the organization’s budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Overseeing audits (as needed) and managing investment strategies to optimize financial resources
- Regularly reviewing financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Providing recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding fiscal policies
Term: The President, President-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and Immediate Past President (as needed) serve during their terms of office. All other members serve for three years, with an option to renew for two years, with terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
The Nominating Committee is responsible for:
- Reviewing and proposing a slate of candidates for anonymous election to the Board of Directors
- Being mindful of the composition of the current Board and potential strategic additions for the future of the Board
- Proposing a second slate of candidates if the Board does not ratify the initial slate (as needed)
Term: Three years, with terms beginning January 1 and ending December 31. There is no option to renew for an additional consecutive term.
The Program Review Committee is responsible for:
- Assessing whether genetic counselling programs are meeting the ACGC Standards of Accreditation (Standards)
- Providing recommendations to the ACGC Board of Directors regarding accreditation decisions
- Providing recommendations to the ACGC Board of Directors regarding changes to the accreditation process, as needed.
Term: There are no term limits for members of this committee. To resign from the committee, members may inform the Executive Office of their desire to do so. These changes will be made effective immediately upon receipt of the communication. It is asked that members do not resign from the committee during an active review.
The purpose of the ACGC Standards Committee is to make recommendations to the ACGC Board of Directors of necessary changes to the Standards of Accreditation for Graduate Programs in Genetic Counseling.
Term: Four years, beginning July 1 and ending June 30. There is no option to renew for a consecutive term.
